The territorial prelature Jesús María del Nayar was on January 13, 1962 by Pope John XXIII. Erected from the cession of the dioceses of Colima and Zacatecas and the Archdiocese of Durango . The territorial prelature was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Guadalajara as a suffragan .
