The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hermosillo ( lat. : Archidioecesis Hermosillensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Hermosillo ) is in Mexico located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Hermosillo .

history

The Archdiocese of Hermosillo was on May 7, 1779 by Pope Pius VI. Established from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Durango as the Diocese of Sonora and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mexico City as a suffragan . On April 27, 1840, the Diocese of Sonora gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Two California . The Diocese of Sonora was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Guadalajara as a suffragan on June 23, 1863 . On May 24, 1883, the Diocese of Sonora gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Sinaloa . The Diocese of Sonora was on June 23, 1891 by Pope Leo XIII. with the Papal Bull Illud in primis subordinated to the Archdiocese of Durango as a suffragan. On 20 June 1959, the Diocese of Sonora were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution petiisset Cum erected Diocese of Ciudad Obregon from. The Diocese of Sonora was renamed the Diocese of Hermosillo on September 1, 1959 .

On July 13, 1963, the diocese Hermosillo was by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Mexicana natio raised to the archbishopric.

On March 19, 2015, Pope Francis established the Diocese of Nogales from cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Hermosillo and made it subject to the Mother Archdiocese as a suffragan. For this foundation, the Archdiocese of Hermosillo gave up more than half of its territory and about 35% of the faithful.
