The Diocese of Culiacan ( lat. : Dioecesis Culiacanensis , span. : Diócesis de Culiacan ) is in Mexico located Roman Catholic diocese based in Culiacan .

The area of ​​the diocese covers the northwest half of the state of Sinaloa , namely the districts (Municipios) Ahome , El Fuerte , Choix , Guasave , Sinaloa de Leyva , Angostura , Mocorito , Salvador Alvarado , Badiraguato , Navolato and Culiacán .

history

The diocese of Culiacán was on May 24, 1883 by Pope Leo XIII. from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Sonora as the Diocese of Sinaloa . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Durango as a suffragan . On November 22, 1958, the diocese of Sinaloa gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Mazatlán . The diocese of Sinaloa was renamed the Diocese of Culiacan on February 16, 1959 . On November 25, 2006, the diocese of Culiacán was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Hermosillo as a suffragan.
