Mariangela Melato (born September 19, 1941 in Milan , † January 11, 2013 in Rome ) was an Italian actress . It has won five of the most important Italian film awards, the David di Donatello and the Nastro d'Argento .

Life

Mariangela Melato studied painting at the Accademia di Brera in Milan and worked as a poster and costume designer. From 1957 she worked in different functions on different stages. 1956 to 1957 she trained as an actress. She made her debut as a stage actress in 1964 in the play La monaca di Monza, directed by Luchino Visconti . She then worked with Dario Fo at the Teatro Stabile in Trieste . Later she was often seen in performances by Luca Ronconi .

Her film career only began in 1969 with minor roles. She became known in the early 1970s as the erotic and hot-blooded leading actress in Lina Wertmüller's tragic comedies . She was partner of Giancarlo Giannini several times . In the second half of the 1970s she worked under various established directors such as Claude Chabrol , Elio Petri and Luigi Comencini . After appearing in the English-language productions Flash Gordon (1980) as General Kala and Der Ausflippte Professor (1981) as the "funny siren " she turned back to the theater, including as Medea in Franz Grillparzer's Das goldene Vlies .

In 1992 she took part in Cristina Comencini's Giallo Network of the Past . In 1996 she embodied a committed lawyer specializing in the defense of women in the six-part miniseries For Love and Justice for television . In 2005 she played the female head of an Italian immigrant family in Utica , New York, in Carlo Ventura's comedy Vieni via con me . In 2008 she was in an Italian TV adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's 1940 novel Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier in the role of the housekeeper “Mrs. Danvers ”.

Mariangela Melato 1983 was a jury member at the International Film Festival in Cannes and in 1989 at the International Film Festival of Venice .
