Rich and Merciless is an Italian comedy directed by Lina Wertmüller . The film was selected as the Italian contribution for the best foreign language film at the 59th Academy Awards , but was not accepted as a nomination.

A wealthy Lombard, Fulvia Block, kidnaps Beppe Catanìa, a Sicilian-Sardinian kidnapping specialist, and holds him captive until an exorbitant ransom is allegedly repaid. The two then spend a night full of passion. Then the abductee reciprocates.
