José María de Jesús Portugal y Serratos OFM (born January 24, 1838 in Mexico City , Mexico , † November 27, 1912 in Aguascalientes ) was Bishop of Aguascalientes .

Life

José María de Jesús y Portugal Serratos joined the Congregation of the Franciscan at and received on 16 June 1861, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On October 1, 1888, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Sinaloa . The Archbishop of Guadalajara , Pedro José de Jesús Loza y Pardavé , donated him episcopal ordination on December 8th of the same year . The inauguration took place on February 16, 1889. On November 28, 1898 Leo XIII appointed him. to the Bishop of Saltillo . The inauguration took place on April 4, 1899. José María de Jesús Portugal y Serratos was appointed the first bishop of Aguascalientes on May 30, 1902 . The inauguration took place on July 29 of the same year.
