Choix is a municipality in the Mexican state of Sinaloa . The municipality has 32,998 inhabitants (2010 census) with an area of 3220 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the Choix of the same name .
geography
The municipality of Choix is located in the far north of the Mexican state of Sinaloa at heights between 100 m and 2200 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental or the hydrographic region of Sinaloa and is largely located in the catchment area of the Río Fuerte . The geology of the municipality is determined by granodiorite (54% of the municipality area), tuff (25%) and metamorphic rocks (13.5%); the predominant soil types are Regosol (55%) and Leptosol (28%). More than 70% of the municipality is forested, 20% is used for arable farming.
The Huites Dam and the El-Mahone Dam are located in the municipality .
The Municipio Choix borders the Municipios Sinaloa and El Fuerte as well as the states of Sonora and Chihuahua .

The 2010 census counted 32,998 people in 7,856 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 816 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 685 speakers of Tarahumara and 71 speakers of Mayo . A good 14 percent of the population was illiterate. 11,017 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 86.5% were men and 5.4% were unemployed. Over 28% of the population lived in extreme poverty.

The Municipio Choix comprises 327 inhabited localidades , of which only the main town is classified as urban by the INEGI . In the 2010 census, two towns had a population of over 1000, and 262 towns had fewer than 100 inhabitants. The biggest places are:
