The Diocese of Tarazona was established in the 5th century and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tarragona as a suffragan . The consecration of the Gothic cathedral is recorded for the year 1232. On June 14, 1318 it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Saragossa as a suffragan.

The diocese of Pamplona y Tudela was annexed to the diocese of Tarazona on July 17, 1889 . On September 2, 1955, the diocese of Tarazona y Tudela was divided into the dioceses of Pamplona y Tudela and Tarazona.
