The Roman Catholic Diocese of Vic ( lat. : Dioecesis Vicensis , cat. : Bisbat de Vic ) is one in Spain situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Vic .
history
The Vic bishopric was established in the 5th century. As a result of the Islamic expansion , the Diocese of Vic went under in 713. No bishops could be appointed to Vic. It was not until 866 that the Vic diocese could be rebuilt as a result of the Reconquista . The diocese was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Narbonne as a suffragan . At the beginning of the 12th century, the Diocese of Vic was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tarragona .
In 1154 the Vic diocese gave some parishes to the Tarragona Archdiocese. On July 19, 1593, the Diocese of Vic gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Solsona . In 1874, the Vic diocese ceded the Montserrat monastery and some parishes to the Barcelona diocese .
