Development of membership numbers
The Archdiocese of Valencia ( lat. : Archidioecesis Valentina , cat. : Arxidiòcesi de Valencia , Span. : Archidiócesis de Valencia ) is one in Spain located Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church , based in Valencia .
history
The Archdiocese of Valencia was first founded in 527 as the Diocese of Valencia , but was lost in the 8th century in the course of the Moorish rule on the Iberian Peninsula . In the course of the Reconquista and the expulsion of the Moors from Valencia, it was rebuilt on October 10, 1238 as the diocese of Valencia . As a suffragan diocese, it was initially under the Archdiocese of Tarragona . On July 9, 1492, Pope Innocent VIII raised the diocese to an archbishopric with the seat of a metropolitan .
