The Archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela ( Latin Archidioecesis Compostellana , Spanish Diócesis de Santiago de Compostela ), based in Santiago de Compostela , was raised to an archbishopric by Pope Kalixt II. In 1120. It has been directed by Archbishop Julián Barrio Barrio since 1996 .
history
The bishop of the former diocese of Iria moved his residence to the city of Santiago de Compostela between 820 and 830 after the discovery of the grave of James the Elder .
