The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cartagena ( lat. : Dioecesis Carthaginensis in Hispania ) is in Spain situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Murcia .

history

The diocese of Cartagena was established in the 1st century. On July 9, 1492, the Diocese of Cartagena was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Valencia as a suffragan . The Diocese of Cartagena gave up on July 14, 1564 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Orihuela . In 1851 the Diocese of Cartagena was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Granada as a suffragan. On November 2, 1949, the Diocese of Cartagena gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Albacete .
