The Diocese of Leon ( lat. : Dioecesis Legionensis ) is in Spain situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in León .

history

The diocese of León was established in the 4th century. As a result of the Islamic expansion , the diocese of León went under. No bishops could be appointed for León. It was not until 792 that the diocese of León could be re-established as a result of the Reconquista . In 1063, King Ferdinand I of Castile and León brought the relics of Saint Isidore from Seville to León. On April 15, 1104, the diocese of León became an immediate diocese.

In 1851 the Diocese of León was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Burgos as a suffragan . The Diocese of León was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Oviedo on October 27, 1954 .
