The Archdiocese of Valladolid (Latin Archidioecesis Vallisoletana ) is an archdiocese of the Spanish Roman Catholic Church based in Valladolid .

The archdiocese includes the province of Valladolid .

The archbishop's seat is the city of Valladolid, where the cathedral " Nuestra Señora de la Asunción " is located.

The area comprises 310 parishes, divided into 4 vicariates .

Each vicariate is divided into deaneries :

  • Duero (3 deaneries)
  • Medina (4 deaneries)

history

The diocese of Valladolid was founded on December 25th, 1595, with the Bull Pro excellenti by Pope Clement VIII , from areas of the diocese of Palencia . The establishment of the diocese put an end to the secular conflict between the Abbot of Valladolid and the Bishop of Palencia .

In 1688 the cathedral "Nuestra Señora de la Asunción" (Assumption of Mary) was consecrated, seat of the diocese. Later, after the Concordat between Spain and the Holy See was signed in 1851, the diocese was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan Diocese on July 4, 1857 . In 1855 the seminary of the diocese was founded.

In 1955 the area of ​​the diocese was considerably expanded to correspond to the province of Valladolid.
