The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zaragoza ( lat. : Archidioecesis Caesaraugustana ) is in Spain situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Zaragoza .

history

The Archdiocese of Saragossa was established in the 5th century as the Diocese of Saragossa and was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Tarragona as a suffragan . The diocese of Saragossa was on July 14, 1318 by Pope John XXII. with the Apostolic Constitution Romanus Pontifex raised to the archbishopric. On July 31, 1577, the Archdiocese of Saragossa gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Teruel .
