Lochruan was a whiskey distillery in Campbeltown , Argyll and Bute , Scotland . It belonged to the Campbeltown whiskey region .
The distillery was built in 1833 by Robert and Charles R. Johnston at the intersection of Princes Street and John Street . In 1865 acquired John and William McKersie operation and modernized in fundamentally They remained until 1919 in family ownership until the reach of Buchanan & Co. arrived. These in turn sold the company to Distillers Company Ltd. in 1925 . ( DCL ), which closed it that same year. The buildings were demolished and houses built on the land.
When Alfred Barnard visited the distillery as part of his whiskey tour in 1885, it had an annual production capacity of 85,000 gallons . A coarse still ( wash still ) with a capacity of 3245 gallons and two fine stills ( spirit stills ) with capacities of 1835 and 1785 gallons respectively were available. Only malt whiskey was produced.
