Vicente Juan Segura (born May 22, 1955 in Tabernes de Valldigna , Valencia Province ) is a Spanish Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Valencia . From 2005 to 2020 he was Bishop of Ibiza .

Life

Vicente Juan Segura studied at the seminary in Valencia and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Valencia on October 24, 1981 . In the same year he graduated from the Faculty of Theology San Vicente Ferrer , the licentiate .

Until 1985 he worked as a chaplain in Cullera and then studied at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy in Rome. In 1988 he was at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in the subject canon law doctorate . He also obtained a doctorate in civil law from the University of Valencia . On July 1, 1988, he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and worked as a nunciature secretary at the apostolic nunciatures in Costa Rica and Mozambique . From 1994 to 2004 he headed the Spanish-speaking department of the State Secretariat of the Holy See as Nunciature Councilor .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Ibiza on January 22, 2005. The substitute for the State Secretariat , Archbishop Leonardo Sandri , donated him episcopal ordination on May 14 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Ricardo María Cardinal Carles Gordó , Archbishop Emeritus of Barcelona , and Agustín García-Gasco y Vicente , Archbishop of Valencia .

Pope Francis released him on January 18, 2020 from the leadership of the diocese of Ibiza and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Valencia and titular bishop of Armentia .
