Place name
The place name is derived from the Latin word vicus , which denotes a small town settlement. In the Castilian language , the name was historically partly written Vique , but modern mostly Vich , which coincided with the traditional Catalan spelling of the place name before the Catalan spelling reform of 1913 and was the official name of the city until 1981. In 1982 the name was officially changed to Vic according to the standards of the Catalan language by Pompeu Fabra i Poch at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans , which were thus also applied to proper names . The correct Catalan pronunciation remained unchanged since ch in the older Catalan (as in Italian) for [ k ] stood.
