Espinelves is a place in the comarca Osona in the province of Girona in the autonomous community of Catalonia in the northeast of the Kingdom of Spain .

geography

Espinelves is located at an altitude of 752 meters in a wooded area. The population, which has been steadily decreasing since the 1930s, was 201 in 2011. The village is connected to Abúcies in the southeast and the university town of Vic in the west via the GI-543 provincial road .

Tourism and economy

The Romanesque church of Sant Vincenç d'Espinelves with a fresco showing the martyrdom of St. Thomas is of major tourist interest for Espinelves . The parish church dates from the 11th and 12th centuries AD. The community is the starting point for hikes in the wooded mountain landscape of the area.

Forestry is important as the main line of business in Espinelves. The local conifer Abies masjoanensis is mainly cut as a Christmas tree .
