Pere Alberc i Vila
Pere Alberc i Vila , often also called Alberch i Vila , born as Pere Alberc i Ferrament , (* 1517 in Vic ; † November 16, 1582 in Barcelona ) was a composer , organist and organ builder of the Catalan Renaissance.
Life
Alberc was trained at the Cathedral of Vic and from 1534 to 1536 building on it at the Cathedral of Valencia with his uncle Pere Vila . He took his uncle's surname Vila as his second surname. In Valencia he was in contact with outstanding musicians such as Mateu Fletxa the Elder , Bartomeu Càrceres and Luis de Milán , all of whom worked for the court of the Duke of Calabria.
In 1536 he took the position of organist at the Cathedral of Barcelona , which he held until the end of his life. In 1558 he also received canonical honors. An agreement between the cathedral chapter and his uncle Pera Vila provided that Alberc left a decisive sum of money for the restoration of the organ. In return, the cathedral chapter assured that the organist position would be filled with descendants of Pere Alberc.
From this position he trained organists such as Mateu de Torres, Pau Navarro, Père Coll, Miquel Martí and Pau Brugats. He worked with the organ builder Pere Flamenc on the restoration of the organ in Barcelona Cathedral and on the construction of the organs of Santa Maria del Mar and Vic Cathedral .

In 1560 and 1561 Alberc published two incompletely preserved collections of madrigals under the titles Odarum spiritualium ... liber secundus (1560) and Odarum (quas vulgo madrigales appellamus) ... liber primus (1561) based on poems by Francesco Petrarca , Ausiàs March , Joan Boscà , Jorge Manrique , Garcilaso de la Vega and Pere Serafí . In these madrigals Alberc offered a highly modern, virtuoso style of composition for the time. The chosen lyrics and the emotional expression of the music are influenced by the aesthetic of Mannerism . Only the booklets for the alto part have survived as reproductions. Other works by Alberc are the five-part motet O crux fidelis , three books with religious madrigals, the organ book El Libro de Tientos , from which a few pieces were also published in Venegas de Henestrosa's Libro de cifra nueva , and the two " Ensaladas " El bon jorn ("The good day") and La lucha ("The fight"). “Ensaladas” are poetic compositions in madrigal style with heterogeneous musical elements in the Catalan-Spanish cultural area of the 16th century, comparable to the German quodlibets .
meaning
Numerous voices testify that Alberc's fame radiated across Europe. The chronicler Pere Comes said that music professionals from Italy, France and all of Europe came to Barcelona to meet Alberc as a musician. All of these people spread the word that there was no better musician than Alberc.
His nephew and student Lluís Ferran i Ferrament succeeded Alberc as organist at the Cathedral of Barcelona after Alberc's death. He also worked as a composer.
