RCR Arquitectes
RCR Arquitectes is an architecture firm based in the Catalan artist town of Olot in Spain . The founders of the company are the architects Rafael Aranda Quiles (* 1961) and Carme Pigem Barceló (* 1962) from Olot as well as the architect Ramón Vilalta Pujol (* 1960) from Vic . "RCR" is an acronym for "Rafael, Carme, Ramon", the first names of the company founders.
The trio of architects was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2017 . The Pritzker jury recognized the outstanding ability of the three Catalans to fit their buildings into the respective landscape and at the same time to create absolutely appropriate references to place and time as well as the ability to convey local and international values with their buildings in a highly successful manner. The jury then further points out that the handwriting of an individual is no longer recognizable in the specific architectural work. The outstanding quality of these works arises in the process of discussion and cooperation, in the process of getting involved and listening and watching the three participants. With this in mind, this group of architects was awarded the Pritzker Prize.
All three architects completed their architecture studies at the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura del Vallès (ETSAV) in 1987 and founded the architectural office RCR Arquitectes in Olot in 1988. You have been working on many joint projects since then. The acronym "RCR" stands for the first names of the three company founders. RCR has designed and implemented architecture in the fields of culture (museums, libraries), education and training (kindergartens, schools, university buildings), sports (athletics stadiums), hotels and restaurants, housing, as well as park and landscape design. “RCR's particularly highlighted construction projects include many buildings in the home region, including the Tussols-Basil sports stadium in Olot, the Joan Oliver library in Barcelona- Sant Antoni (2007), the Bell-Lloc winery in Palamós (2007), and the kindergarten El Petit Comte in Besalú (2010) and the La Lira Theater in Ripoll (2011). But the three architects also built in France, for example the Soulages Museum in Rodez (2014). ”RCR also planned and planned the volcanic stone park Pedra Tosca (2005) within the nature reserve Volcanoes of Garrotxa in the districts of Olot and Les Preses projected.
