Ripoll is a city in the province of Girona in Catalonia ( Spain ). It was founded at the confluence of the rivers Ter and its tributary Freser and is the capital of the Comarca Ripollès in the Catalan pre- Pyrenees . The city has 10,686 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) and an area of 10.19 km².

history
Nucleus of the village is Santa Maria de Ripoll , a former Benedictine - Abbey . This monastery was founded by Count Wilfried the Hairy (Guifré el Pilós) in 879 or 880 . He is buried in the church. The monastery is famous for its book illumination (museum on site).
