The Universitat de Vic (UVIC) is a private , state-recognized university based in Vic, Catalonia .

The university was founded in 1997. Forerunner was a school, which in 1599 by Philip III was launched. After the War of the Spanish Succession , Philip V had all universities in Catalonia banned. In 1749 the Vic seminary was established. An attempt to re-establish the University of Vic in 1849 failed. In 1977 the teachers' seminar Escuela Universitaria de Maestros “ Jaume Balmes ” was founded as an offshoot of the University of Barcelona , followed in 1979 by Eumo Editorial and in 1984 by Eumogràfic . After various amalgamations, the University of Vic passed a resolution on May 21, 1997 by the Catalan Parliament. The university is run by the Fundació Universitària Balmes .

The university buildings are spread over the two campuses Miramarges ( 41 ° 56 ′ 0 ″  N , 2 ° 14 ′ 51 ″  E ) and Torre dels Frares ( 41 ° 55 ′ 51 ″  N , 2 ° 14 ′ 44 ″  E ) im Northwest of Vic.
