The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM; German  Autonomous University of Madrid ) is a state comprehensive university in Madrid that was founded in 1968. In 1971 she moved to the Cantoblanco campus , where almost all faculties have been gathered since then . From that year on, it was expanded and expanded until it accommodated more than 30,000 students and more than 2,000 teachers in the 2007/8 academic year.

Since it was founded, the UAM has been one of the most important universities in Spain. It is number 1 among Spanish universities in the rankings of the newspapers El Mundo and Times and in the rankings of Jiao Tong University in Shanghai .

campus

The main campus is located in Cantoblanco in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district of Madrid. It has a total area of ​​2,252,000 m². It was inaugurated on October 25, 1971 and is considered a campus with environmentally conscious and sustainable management (of the 24 campuses in the world).

  • Medicine campus. The Faculty of Medicine is located near the La Paz University Hospital in the north of Madrid.

Colleges and residences

The UAM has two dormitories of its own:

  • Juan Luis Vives residence is located on Francisco Suárez Street in the Chamartín district. It has 123 rooms for students, graduates and professors.
  • Erasmo residence. It is located on the university campus. It was inaugurated in 2004 and expanded in 2008. It has 765 rooms. Available daily, weekly or all year round.

  • Santillana residence. The hotel is located on Calle Marbella 60, in the residential area of ​​Mirasierra.
  • Somosierra dormitory. Located on Calle Pablo Vidal, 6.

And a mixed dormitory sponsored by the Community of Madrid

  • San Fernando residence (student residence) and has 200 double and single rooms. It is located on Carretera Colmenar Viejo, km 12.8 in the Ciudad Escolar Education Center, about 5 minutes from the university.
