The University of Lleida (short UdL , Catalan Universitat de Lleida ) is a university in the Catalan Lleida in northeastern Spain . It was founded between 1297 and 1301 and closed by a royal law ( Real Cédula ) in 1717 . It was reopened on December 12, 1991.

The Ilerdense course was the oldest university in the domain of the kings of Aragon and one of the oldest on the Iberian Peninsula . After Boniface VIII had given his approval in 1297, James II of Aragón carried out the construction in collaboration with the city of Lleida, which was probably completed in 1301.
