The University of Barcelona ( Catalan Universitat de Barcelona , Spanish Universidad de Barcelona ) is a state university in the Spanish city ​​of Barcelona . Its faculties are distributed over the following campuses in the city and the surrounding area: the University Campus, the Raval Campus, the Diagonal Campus, the Bellvitge Campus, the Torribera Campus, the Mundet Campus, the Sants Campus and the Hospital Clinic -Campus.

It was founded on November 3rd, 1450 by King Alfonso the Magnanimous .

There are 16 faculties, nine departments and affiliated centers with around 62,000 students and 5,700 academic employees (as of 2019). Both the departments and the faculties have internal autonomy and their own self-governing bodies. The rector of the university is Joan Elias Garcia .

Libraries

The library of the University of Barcelona is the second largest university library in Spain after the library of the Complutense University of Madrid with 1,611,721 volumes.

Paraninfo

Paraninfo is the most symbolic room in the historic building and is located in the central part of the building above the lobby. This room is used to celebrate university doctorates, inaugurations or investiture by honorary doctorates. The surfaces of the room are covered with neo-mudéjar elements and numerous decorations in which the historical theme predominates. Monarchs who have played a key role in the history of the institution are also represented.

Finca Pedro and Pons

This farm has been part of the university's heritage since the donation by Agustí Pedro i Pons. It is a viewpoint over the city of Barcelona (next to the Peu del Funicular stop). The facade dates from the 18th century and the art collection of is preserved in it. It is possible to visit this farm as a group.
