(2987) Sarabhai is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey .
The asteroid was named in honor of the Indian researcher Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai , who u. a. initiated public satellite television in India.
