The Archdiocese of San Luis Potosí was on August 31, 1854 by Pope Pius IX. built with the papal bull Deo Optimo Maximo largiente from cession of territory of the Diocese of Michoacán as the Diocese of San Luis Potosí and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mexico City as a suffragan .
