history
The Archdiocese of San Luis Potosí was on August 31, 1854 by Pope Pius IX. built with the papal bull Deo Optimo Maximo largiente from cession of territory of the Diocese of Michoacán as the Diocese of San Luis Potosí and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mexico City as a suffragan . On January 26, 1863, the diocese of San Luis Potosí was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Michoacán as a suffragan. The Diocese of San Luis Potosi was 1,960 parts of its territory to the founding of the November 27 Apostolic Constitution Cum rectus Rerum erected Diocese of Ciudad Valles from.
On November 5, 1988, the diocese of San Luis Potosí was raised to an archbishopric by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Nihil optabilius .
