The Diocese of San Cristobal de Las Casas ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Christophori de las Casas , span. : Diócesis de San Cristobal de Las Casas ) is one in Mexico located Roman Catholic diocese , based in San Cristobal de las Casas .
history
The diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas was founded on March 19, 1539 by Pope Paul III. Established from the cession of territory by the Antequera diocese as the diocese of Chiapas and subordinated to the archdiocese of Seville as a suffragan . On February 12, 1546, the Diocese of Chiapas was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mexico City as a suffragan. The diocese of Chiapas was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Antequera as a suffragan on June 23, 1891. On 19 June 1957, the Diocese of Chiapas were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution Cum Nos erected Diocese of Tapachula from. Another area assignment, carried out on 27 October 1964 on the establishment of the Apostolic Constitution Cura illa erected Diocese of Tuxtla Gutierrez .
On October 27, 1964, the Diocese of Chiapas was renamed the Diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas . The diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas was founded on November 25, 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutiérrez as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution Mexicani populi .
