Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel

Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel (born May 1, 1940 in San José Chiltepec , Oaxaca , Mexico ) is a Mexican clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of San Cristóbal de Las Casas .

Life

Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Toluca on August 25, 1963 .

On February 7, 1991 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Tapachula . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Mexico, Archbishop Girolamo Prigione , donated him episcopal ordination on March 7th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Tehuacán , Norberto Rivera Carrera , and the Archbishop of Antequera , Bartolomé Carrasco Briseño . On March 31, 2000, John Paul II appointed him Bishop of San Cristóbal de Las Casas. The inauguration took place on May 1st of the same year.

On November 3, 2017, Pope Francis accepted Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel's request to resign on grounds of age.
