The diocese of Mexicali was on March 25, 1966 by Pope Paul VI. Established with the Apostolic Constitution Qui secum reputet from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Tijuana and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Hermosillo as a suffragan . On November 25, 2006, the diocese of Mexicali was by Pope Benedict XVI. subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tijuana as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution Mexicani populi .
