Aziz Ansari (born February 23, 1983 in Columbia , South Carolina ) is an American comedian and actor of Indian - Tamil descent.
Life
Ansari grew up in South Carolina before studying economics in New York . There he made his first attempts in the clubs as a stand-up comedian and eventually turned it into his profession. A weekly show at the UCB Theater became the comedy series The Human Giant on MTV in the mid-2000s, along with two other comedians . From 2009 to 2015 he played the role of Tom Haverford in the NBC series Parks and Recreation . In 2009 he was seen alongside Adam Sandler in the film How Life Works. He also starred in the movies Best Man Wanted! and men's trip with. He also appeared in four episodes of the US doctors comedy Scrubs - The Beginners as a medical student Ed . Ansari was also seen together with Jesse Eisenberg in the film 30 Minutes or Less, which was released in late 2011. In 2012 he spoke to Squint in the animated film Ice Age 4 - Fully Postponed . In April 2012 he was cast by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for the film adaptation of the Jason Stones short film Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse .
Aziz Ansari released his first comedy album in 2010. It was titled Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening and hit # 1 on the comedy album charts.
In 2015 Ansari took on the leading role in the comedy series Master of None , for which he also wrote the script and acted as a director. In this role, Ansari was the first American actor of Indian descent to be nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2016 Emmy Awards . In 2018 he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Series - Comedy or Musical for the second season .
