action

After a long time, Mary Katherine (MK) visits her father, Professor Bomba, who lives with his dog Ozzie in an old house in the woods. The unworldly professor Bomba devotes his life to researching small beings, the protectors of all living creatures in the forest. However, Professor Bomba had never seen these beings before. Ultimately, his search leads to the fact that his daughter wants to leave her parents' home early.

On the way out, however, she follows her dog Ozzie, who is running into the forest. There she finds Queen Tara, who was fatally wounded by Mandrake in an attack by the Boggans. Queen Tara uses her skills to shrink MK and gives her the bud that is supposed to guarantee the continued existence of the leafmen ("leaf men"). Shortly afterwards, the Leafmen advance to the dying Tara and MK.

MK now helps the Leafmen to protect the Bud from Mandrake's access and at the same time looks for a way to get it back into their world. With the help of the Leafman's Nod and the Leafmen leader Ronin, she finally succeeds in making the bud bloom.

Reviews

Julia Bähr at Focus online approves: “'Epic' is above all an outstanding children's film. The dialogues are funny and depend on good timing and the drawings are adorable. [...] The past looks like 'Epic' when it has already become the future. "

The critic at Kino.de says: “Above everything there is a touch of (unobtrusive) eco-message in the manner of 'FernGully' and above all Hayao Miyazaki with its spiritual approaches. A playful adventure from an 'Avatar' not dissimilar, light-footed, casually presented fantasy world, torn between epic fervor and easy fun, with great sets and dazzling characters that grow on the heart. "

Björn Becher from Filmstarts judges: The “3D spectacle impresses above all with its many crazy, fast-paced scenes in front of an impressive, immensely detailed backdrop, while the actual story about dwarfs living in the forest […] [is not new]. The result is more visually than narrative convincing, entertaining animation fun for the whole family. ”It awards three out of five possible stars.

At Cinema.de you can read: “The story sounds like a mixture of 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Horton hears a who', but the warlike plot, the terrifying creatures from the realm of evil and the fast-paced battle scenes are more reminiscent ,Lord of the Rings'. [...] Despite the extremely exhausted 3D effects (with partly clear depth and motion blur), this is spectacular to look at, but anything but child's play. "
