William Joyce

William Joyce (born December 11, 1957 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) is an American author . In addition to various newspaper articles and books for adults, he is particularly popular with his children's books .

Joyce discovered his talent for writing early on. He wrote exciting, if not always logical, stories for almost every taste. His stories for younger children , in particular, became bestsellers in the United States .

Among other things, he developed various characters for the films Toy Story and The Big Crawling for the Pixar Studios . In 2005, Joyce and Chris Wedge wanted to film Joyce 's popular children's book Santa Calls in the USA . The project never came about. In early 2007, filmed Walt Disney Company Joyce's book Staying with Willi Robinson ( A Day with Wilbur Robinson ) and Meet the Robinsons . This film also fell far short of expectations. In 2012 the film "The Guardians of the Light" (Original: Rise of the Guardians) was released, which is based on his novel "The Guardians of Childhood". In 2013, the book "The Leaf Men" was directed by Chris Wedge under the film title "Epic" (English title "Epic") filmed for 20th Century Fox. The box office income was over $ 100 million in the US alone. In 2012 he won an Oscar for the animated short film The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore together with Brandon Oldenburg .

Joyce lives with his son in Shreveport , Louisiana . His daughter died in 2010 of complications from a brain tumor, his wife died in 2016 of complications from her ALS disease.
