John Christian "Chris" Wedge (born March 20, 1957 in Binghamton , New York ) is an American director and screenwriter who is best known for his work on Ice Age , Robots and Ice Age 2 - Now is thawing .

Life

Wedge grew up in Flushing , Queens ( New York City ). As a kid, he was a huge Looney Tunes fan . Chris Wedge graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School in 1975. He was primarily interested in computers and the then unknown video games .

In 1998 he received an Oscar for the short film Bunny . With the film Ice Age , in which Wedge had also dubbed the squirrel Scrat , and which became a surprise success, he became known to a larger audience. After Ice Age became a huge success in 2002 , he collaborated with the well-known children's book author William Joyce on the film Robots . The film was released in 2005.

In 2006, Ice Age 2 came to the cinema, which was even more successful than the first part, although Wedge only worked as a voice actor for the character of Scrat . In an interview, Wedge announced that he would direct several other animated films. In 2013 he again directed the successful animated film Epic - Hidden Kingdom . The 2016 film Monster Trucks , which he directed, then turned out to be less financially successful .

He lists The Old Man and the Sea as his favorite book and one of his sources of inspiration .
