The comedy was shot in New York and Newark , New Jersey . It cost about 13 million US dollars .

In an episode of the Without a Trace series , Jerry O'Connell plays a paranoid schizophrenic named Joe. In one scene it is mentioned that there is a problem with cockroaches in his apartment. (s02e12: Stranger Voices / Hawks and Handsaws , 2004)

In the scene where Joe moves into the shabby apartment, he hangs posters of Led Zeppelin , Primus (the cover of the 1993 album Pork Soda ) and Sonic Youth on the walls. Under the posters is a joint concert poster by Soundgarden and Pearl Jam , designed by screen printer Frank Kozik , on which a young, dark-haired woman can be seen with her eyes closed and arms raised. Joe also wears a White Zombie baseball cap and AC / DC and Obituary t-shirts (with the Cause of Death album cover printed on the chest).

The American punk blues band Boss Hog with the musician couple Cristina Martinez on vocals and Jon Spencer on electric guitar has a short guest appearance in the film in the form of a live concert in an urban rock club. In this scene you can also see the solo musician Moby as a DJ.
