Jerry O'Connell (* 17th February 1974 in New York City , New York as Michael Jeremiah O'Connell ) is an American actor and screenwriter .

In addition to mainly comedic roles in Hollywood films, he became known primarily as a series actor ( Ultraman - My secret self , Sliders - The gateway to a foreign dimension , Crossing Jordan - pathologist with profile ).

life and work

O'Connell began his acting career at the age of eleven in Rob Reiner's Stand by Me (1986) after several commercials . After that, he occasionally starred in television series and attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan . In 1992 he began studying film at New York University . He was the captain of the saber fencing team . He graduated from the film school in 1995 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts .

While still a student, he auditioned for roles in two new television series: Sliders - The Gateway to a Foreign Dimension and Party of Five . He got the lead role of Quinn Mallory in Sliders , a science fiction series whose protagonists travel through a dimensional gate into different realities. The series made him known and helped him to no longer just be "the fat kid" from Stand by Me ; he produced the fourth and penultimate season himself and directed or wrote the script for various episodes.

This was followed by roles in major Hollywood productions such as Body Shots , Mission to Mars , Tomcats and Kangaroo Jack . The romantic comedy First Daughter - Date with Obstacles starring Katie Holmes , based on a script by O'Connell, fell through with both audiences and critics.

He gained new fame as a serious actor in the portrayal of Detective Woodrow "Woody" Hoyt in the crime series Crossing Jordan - Pathologist with Profile . The role, originally created as a funny secondary character, gained importance as the series progressed. O'Connell made guest appearances on almost every episode until he was inducted into the regular cast at the beginning of season four.

In 1999 he starred in the music video for Heartbreaker by Mariah Carey .

O'Connell has a younger brother named Charlie who also works as an actor. Jerry has been married to actress Rebecca Romijn since July 14, 2007 . The two became parents of twins on December 28, 2008.
