The New Guy (Austria: The New Guy - On the Very Cool Tour ) is an American comedy , directed by Ed Decter from 2002, with DJ Qualls and Eliza Dushku in the leading roles and Eddie Griffin in a supporting role.
action
The film opens with convict Luther telling the story of Dizzy Gillespie Harrison, a nerd and high school student.
Dizzy - like his friends - at Rocky Creek High School very unpopular and bullied by his classmates, but especially from the Star - Football Player Barclay. Thereupon he does everything in his power to fly from school to start over at another school. After an embarrassing appearance in front of his classmates, Dizzy is expelled from school on the one hand and ends up in prison for a few days on the other . In prison, Dizzy meets Luther, who helps him to escape from his role as a victim and to become "cool". After his release, he leaves his old high school and moves to East Highland High under his new name, Gil Harris.
On his first day he is dropped off at the school by a prisoner transporter , clashes with Connor and emerges as the winner. After this action, cheerleader Danielle welcomes him to the school as a newcomer. In the meantime, Connor tries to find out something about Dizzy's past. Then Dizzy, of all people, leads the school's demotivated football team onto the winning road and is then commissioned by the coach and the school director to plan the homecoming ball. With the victory not only the women, but also the athletes are at his feet. Dizzy is gradually shedding his bad boy image and advocating for the supposedly weaker. He gets students to help and accept one another.
In the game against his old school his team wins, but he is recognized by Barclay. The next day, Barclay tries to show the East Highland students who he really is, but is overwhelmed by Dizzy's new friends. When the crowd disappears, Connor helps the beaten Barclay and lets himself be told who Dizzy really is.
At the homecoming ball, Dizzy performs with his funk band, but is stopped by the Rocky Creek students. Barclay and Connor play the video about his embarrassing appearance and expose him as a failure. All students are now against Dizzy, but he gets support from the prison inmates and their guards who gag Connor and Barclay. Danielle tells Dizzy that she used to be teased too and didn't make friends until after puberty. After a kiss, they return to the sports hall and the stage curtain is opened. Connor and Barclay, like Dizzy, are in the same embarrassing situation at Rocky Creek High School.
In the final scene you can see that Luther is telling the story of Dizzy David Hasselhoff .

"Average teenage comedy that focuses too much on cheap gags instead of developing the basically functional story sustainably."
