Nine Days is an American rock group from New York that stormed the charts with the global hit Absolutely (Story of a Girl) . The song came from the score for the teen film American Pie .
Band history
After the two talented songwriters John Hampson and Brian Desveaux had played in numerous other bands in New York, both joined forces to write songs. It was nine days in 1994 before the two had finished some songs that they wanted to present in New York clubs. When the two were joined by bassist Nick Dimichino, drummer Vincent Tattanelli and keyboardist Jeremy Dean to play a little in the clubs, the band began to write a multitude of songs that were full of heartfelt emotions, personal triumphs and tragedies . Together with melodic sophistication, these songs hit the spirit of the New York club scene. The very hurried and quick recording of their first album Something To Listen To 1994 gave them the impulse to play as a guest every Monday in a well-known New York nightclub. A year later they recorded their second album Monday Songs , the title of which was based on the Monday shows. A bigger success was winning a regional talent competition for the best band. They also received an award as the best "non-contracted band". Spurred on by these honors, the band returned to the studio in 1998 to record the simply titled third album Three . A short time later the major labels were interested in the five guys.
Nine Days signed to Sony's 550 Music and released their first major album, The Madding Crowd , in 2000, which earned them both good reviews and commercial success. Above all because of the great success of the single Absolutely (Story of a Girl) , the album received great respect all over the world.
Originally, a follow-up album ( So Happily Unsatisfied ) was supposed to appear in the summer of 2002 , but it was initially postponed to autumn in order to prevent the album from going down in the mass of new releases. Ultimately, the album stayed somewhere between the studio and the press shop and Sony and the Nine Days ended their business cooperation a short time later.
In early 2003, the band tried again to negotiate with Sony so that the promising album could still be released, if only under an independent label. During this difficult time, Jeremy Dean left the band. A short time later, drummer Vincent Tattanelli turned his back on the band and left Nine Days shattered on the floor. Now the band no longer had an album, two longtime friends and band members had left Nine Days and guitarist John Hampson began recording his debut solo EP 17MINUTESAND38SECONDSINTHEDARK .
Fans feared that the Nine Days project was over, but in late 2003 the band surprised with a new album called Flying The Corporate Jet . Vincent had meanwhile also returned to the band and is now responsible for the graphic structure of the John Hampson and Nine Days CDs, which made a childhood dream come true.
In the meantime, both singers, John Hampson and Brian Desveaux, have left their solo ambitions behind.
After Jeremy Dean rejoined the band, the band decided to record a new album.
In 2013 an album will be recorded via crowdfunding, the first song of which is available for download.
