content

The former mermaid Arielle now lives as a person with Prince Erik in his castle. The two have a baby daughter named Melody. At a ceremony for her baptism, Ursula's evil sister Morgana wants to kidnap the little girl in order to avenge her dead sister and finally to be the queen of the seas. With the help of Triton and the other sea creatures, however, it is possible to save the girl. Morgana swears vengeance. Triton's entourage tries to find Morgana. When the search is unsuccessful, however, Arielle makes a decision: Both Melody and herself are not allowed into the sea until Morgana is found. In addition, Melody is not allowed to know anything about the Mermen and Atlantica, including her grandfather, King Triton. She is not allowed to keep the medallion he gave Melody as the underwater city of Atlantica and its inhabitants can be seen in it. Disappointed, Triton throws Melody's golden shell-shaped medallion with her name on it into the sea.

12 years later: Melody loves the sea and secretly dives under the wall in front of the castle. In the water she is looked after by Ariel's former babysitter Sebastian, the crab. One day she confesses to him that sometimes she dreams of having fins. After embarrassing herself at her birthday party with the youthful aristocracy when she spoke to Sebastian, she retires to her room, where she has hidden a bag of seashells. She takes out a golden shell on a chain, removes some algae and recognizes its name. When Ariel enters the room, Melody opens the locket. You can see the underwater city of Atlantica and several sea people. Arielle asks Melody to reveal where she got it from and is angry when Melody confesses to her that she swam in the sea. An argument ensues and Melody runs away. She paddles out to sea in a boat to learn the meaning of the medallion and is taken to Morgana.

Arrived at Morgana, Melody transforms into a mermaid and wins her trust. She also quickly makes friends in the sea: Tip and Top, a penguin and a walrus . Morgana gives her the order to get her the powerful trident Triton, because Triton allegedly stole it from her, and she can only use the trident to ensure that Melody remains a mermaid forever. Since Melody doesn't know anything about her grandfather, she agrees and sets off for Atlantica with her friends. Soon after, they reach the underwater city.

Meanwhile, Arielle and Erik try everything to find out where Melody has fled to. Arielle decides to look for Melody herself because she regrets the mistake of never telling the girl about her origins. Triton transforms her into a mermaid again and, together with her father, Sebastian and her now grown-up friend Fabius, starts looking for her daughter everywhere. In the meantime Melody, Tip and Top have reached Triton's palace and are hiding there. Melody becomes unsure whether it is right to steal the trident, since her Triton doesn't seem like a thief at all. In the end she steals the trident; in the process she loses her locket, but can no longer get it back, since Triton is returning at this moment. Arielle and her father are dismayed because no one except Triton and his descendants can take the trident out of its holder. When Arielle finds Melody's locket, it becomes clear who the thief is. Together with Fabius, she follows Klamm and Heimlich, Morgana's devil ray, and thus finds the witch's whereabouts. Melody is about to hand over the trident when Ariel and Fabius arrive. Arielle and her daughter are amazed that the other is a mermaid. Arielle asks Melody to give her the trident, but Morgana can convince Melody, gets the trident and conjures up an ice palace with it. Enter Triton, the castle guards, and Erik. With the trident Morgana succeeds in subjugating the sea creatures. Melody, who is now human again, because Morgana has not kept her promise, climbs onto the ice palace and takes the trident from Morgana. She throws it to Triton. This freezes Morgana in a block of ice. Then the ice palace begins to collapse. Melody falls down, but lands softly on the walrus top.

When Morgana is defeated, Triton gives Melody a choice: Either she becomes a mermaid again and lives with him in Atlantica, or she remains human and lives with her parents on land. But she decides to make the wall that separates the castle residents from the sea disappear. Then a big festival is celebrated where merfolk and humans can get to know each other.

Reviews

  • According to the lexicon of international films , the film offers "entertainment for the whole family, even if the problems of the adolescent mermaid daughter have taken center stage."
  • Cinema said: “The video premiere does not come close to the magic of the first Arielle film adaptation [...]. But the almost identical story is told quickly and Melodys fearful, chaotic helpers Penguin Tip and Walrus Top are always good for a laugh. "
