action

One day, the animal fairy Emily perceives strange noises in the distance. It sounds like an alien roaring and howling in agony. She decides to help and starts looking for the source of the noises. What she finally finds amazes her, she had never seen anything like it before: The never-beast is about 20 times her size and resembles a dog; it has razor sharp teeth and green eyes. There is a thorn in his paw, which Emily removes.

From here on, a friendship develops between Emily and the never-beast, whom she calls "Grummel".

In the valley of the fairies, however, the acquaintance does not meet with enthusiasm. The never-beast seems to have a mission and is perceived as a threat by the other residents. Emily takes on the guard Nyx, who fears that the Neverbeast could bring mischief to the Valley of the Fairies. Because, according to an old legend, the never-beast wakes up every 1000 years when a comet passes by to destroy the Valley of the Fairies with the help of a storm.

Meanwhile, Emily tries to convince the other fairies, especially Tinkerbell, of the Neverbeast's good intentions and to protect it. She manages to do this and now Emily, Tinkerbell and their friends Grummel try with all their might to protect.

When Emily tries to tell the Fairy Kings about her harmless friend, Nyx comes before her and tells of a legend that says that Emily's friend is a dangerous beast who wants to destroy the Valley of the Fairies. Nyx then tries to capture Grummel, who meanwhile builds 4 mysterious towers in every season, as the prophecy had said.

As the storm gets worse, Emily and Grummel are separated, causing Tinkerbell and Emily to go in search of him. When Tinkerbell finally finds him in winter, she sees a change in him. As legend had prophesied, Grummel grew terrifying horns and his eyes were now shining ominously green. Tinkerbell tries to calm it down, but she doesn't succeed. Grummel apparently attacks Tinkerbell, whereupon she passes out. Emily finds her injured friend and realizes that the prophecies are true after all, since all that was predicted has come true. When Tinkerbell is still passed out, Emily decides to extradite Grummel, whereupon Nyx and the other guardian fairies take him prisoner.

Meanwhile, Tinkerbell has woken up and tells Emily that Grummel didn't intentionally hurt her. On the contrary, he had tried to save Tinkerbell from a falling tree that would otherwise have killed her. So Emily realizes that her friend is not a beast, but rather a protector who tries to protect the valley of the fairies from the destruction that threatens by the storm. Emily and her friends free Grummel. However, this has been weakened by the capture and only sees blurred. Emily realizes that he can still see her glowing fairy wings and decides to fly ahead of him to show him the right way. Grummel, who meanwhile has grown wings as prophesied, flies after Emily to collect the lightning bolts that are bundled by the built towers. When they are only missing one tower, it is destroyed by Nyx, who still sees a beast in Grummel. Thereupon Emily sees only one possibility to save the valley, and flies with grumble directly into the eye of the storm. Grummel manages to collect all the lightning, and the storm passes by. Now the rest of the valley also recognizes Grummel's true intentions and they catch him when he falls weak from the sky.

However, Emily was badly injured when she was flew in the storm and apparently dies. Grummel, deeply struck that his girlfriend is dead, but manages to revive her. Grummel is now recognized as the guardian of the valley. Emily soon realizes it's time for Grummel's hibernation again. Deeply sad, she explains to the others that Grummel's assignment is over now and that he will sleep for another 1000 years, so they will never see him again.

Before Grummel goes into hibernation, Emily corrects the legend about Grummel so that he will continue to be recognized as the “guardian of the valley”. The fairies honor Grummel by lovingly furnishing his sleeping place and everyone saying goodbye to him emotionally. Even Nyx thanks him and expresses her respect.

The film ends with Grummel closing his eyes.
