Chloe Bennet ( Chinese  汪 可 盈 , Pinyin Wāng Kěyíng ; born April 18, 1992 as Chloe Wang in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actress and singer . She had her breakthrough as an actress in 2012/13 with her roles in the US television series Nashville and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD .

life and career

Bennet is the daughter of a Sino-American investment banker and a white internist. Her maiden name is Chloe Wang, her stage name Bennet is derived from her father's first name. She grew up with her six brothers (three births, one adoptive and two foster siblings) on the South Side of Chicago.

At the age of twelve she joined the youth theater ensemble of The Second City and was active for this for several years. At the age of 15 she was discovered by talent scouts and moved to China , where she pursued a career as a singer in Beijing and lived with her paternal grandmother. For this she learned Mandarin and soon afterwards published her debut single Uh Oh in English and Mandarin under her maiden name Chloe Wang . This single was followed by another with Every Day In Between , in which she sang exclusively in English.

On her return to the United States, she settled in Los Angeles and worked alongside Nick Cannon and Aaron Fresh on the TeenNick series The Nightlife , which premiered on August 5, 2010 following a new Degrassi episode, and was discontinued in the same month after the fourth episode last broadcast on August 26, 2010 due to poor ratings. A year later she worked in the music video for the single Tonight by the South Korean boy band Big Bang .

From 2012, she concentrated increasingly on a career in acting and had a leading role in Kevin Hook's Intercept in the same year , where she still appeared under her maiden name Chloe Wang . In the feature film, which was produced with an estimated budget of almost two million dollars, she can be seen in the lead role of Tess alongside Danielle Panabaker , Austin Butler , Nolan Gerard Funk and Susie Abromeit . Also in 2012 she made it into the extended cast of Nashville and was in the series until 2013 in a total of seven different episodes in the role of Hailey , who briefly dated Gunnar Scott (played by Sam Palladio ) one of the main characters. She has been using the stage name Chloe Bennet since Nashville .

In December 2012, the then 20-year-old was cast on the ABC series Marvel's Agents of SHIELD , which has aired since 2013. As part of the main cast, she took on the role of Skye , a member of the hacking organization Rising Tide . For this role she had a total of six different auditions, initially they wanted to hire her for the role of agent Jemma Simmons , which was eventually cast by Elizabeth Henstridge . While she was lent the German voice by Luisa Wietzorek in the German-language dubbed version of Nashville , first Anne Helm and later Anja Stadlober became her voice actress in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD .
