action
After the death of her father, teenager Yi lives with her mother and grandmother "Nai Nai" in Shanghai. She has distanced herself from her family and friends, such as the cheerful Peng and his superficial cousin Jin. She fills all of her free time with jobs to raise money for a trip to all the places her father wanted to visit with her.
One day, a young yeti escapes from a security facility owned by the wealthy businessman Burnish who captured him to prove the existence of these mythical creatures to the world. He escapes to the roof of Yi's apartment block, where she has set up a retreat. At night she comes up to play the violin and discovers the creature. When a search party flies by in a helicopter, Yi hides the Yeti. The next day she brings him Baozi and heals his arm wound. She calls him Everest because she realizes that he wants to go back there.
Jin and Peng go to the roof to see if everything is going well. At that moment the helicopter reappears and Everest flees with Yi on his back over the roofs to the Oriental Pearl Tower . Jin and Peng follow them on a scooter. At the port she sends Everest away on a ship, but jumps on board with a brief hesitation. Peng and Jin follow her too. In a port on Lake Qiandao , they travel on in a truck. Eventually, the cargo they were hiding in falls from the loading area into the forest. There Everest uses its magical powers to grow blueberries in order to satisfy its hunger.
Meanwhile, Burnish and zoologist Dr. Zara continues the chase. In Huang Shan Mountains they find the children. Everest lets a dandelion grow until it reaches gigantic proportions. He, Yi and Peng cling to the stem and let the wind carry them. Jin is captured by Burnish. Zara convinces Jin that as a zoologist, the wellbeing of the yeti and the children is important to her. He tells her where to find her next. During the night, however, Jin learns that Zara is planning to deceive Burnish and sell the Yeti. Thereupon he struggles through the jungle alone to reach his friends beforehand.
Yi, Peng and Everest reach the Gobi Desert and continue on foot. Burnish catches up with them in a small town on the Yellow River . Jin shows up with a boat just in time and they escape with the help of Everest's forces, who create a gigantic wave from a field of flowers, on which they surf with the boat. On the landing, however, Yi's violin, her most precious memory of her father, breaks. Everest repairs them by replacing the strings with his hair. They reach the Buddha of Leshan , where Yi realizes that Everest purposely led her to all the places she wanted to visit. On the statue, Yi plays on her violin, which thanks to the yeti hair now also has magical powers and makes flowers grow.
At the foot of the Himalayas they are surrounded by Burnish's people on a bridge. Everest summons a storm to protect the children. Burnish realizes the yetis need protection and wants to call his people back. Zara, however, shoots him with a tranquilizer and takes Everest prisoner. In a fight, she pushes Yi off the bridge. The squad leaves with Jin and Peng. Yi did not fall into the abyss, however, but hangs on a rope under the bridge. She climbs up and plays her magical violin. This gives Everest new strength and he breaks out of the cage. With control over the ice and snow, he stops the column and frees Jin and Peng. Desperately, Dr. Zara to run over Everest. She creates an avalanche that brings her and the leader of Burnish's men down. Everest summons clouds that bring the four up the mountain. There he meets his family again.
