Madagascar is a computer-animated cartoon that was released in cinemas on May 27, 2005 in the USA and on July 14, 2005 in Germany. It was created under the working title "Wild Life" in the DreamWorks Animation Studios, which celebrated successes above all with the Shrek series and the film Big Sharks - Small Fish . 240 employees worked four years to complete the film. More than 6.5 million cinema viewers saw him in Germany .

action

Four New York zoo animals - the adventure- loving zebra Marty, the vain lion Alex, the hypochondriac giraffe Melman and the diva-like hippo lady Gloria - roam the streets outside of Central Park Zoo after Marty's tenth birthday . Only shortly before that, the cheeky Marty had been persuaded by the four penguins Skipper, Private , Kowalski and Rico to plan this escape, because actually Gloria, Melman and Alex, all spoiled in the zoo, are very skeptical about this plan. After a long night, which they mainly spent on the run from the police, the four friends and the group of penguins and the chimpanzees Mason and Phil find themselves in wooden boxes on a ship heading for Kenya's National Park.

After the conspiratorial penguins took control of the ship and the wooden boxes of the captured animals fell off the ship, Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria were stranded in Madagascar . Soon the spoiled animals notice what it really is like to live in the wild . You meet a group of lemurs , who are fearful at first, mainly because of the predator Alex, but quickly realize that they have nothing to fear from the zoo animals. Julien, the king of the lemurs, even wants to use the " New York Giants " as a defense against the lemurs' predators, the fossas .

As Alex gets hungrier and hungrier, he remembers his hunting instinct and even fantasizes about eating his best friend Marty. Most of all, he would just like to go home to the zoo, where he is regularly fed and can enjoy his stardom.

In the end, the friends manage to get a grip on Alex's instinct to eat fish as well as escape the fossas. Since the penguins have now returned from Antarctica , the troops are preparing to leave for New York. However, the ship's tank is empty.

synchronization

The German synchronization of the film took over the Berliner Synchron AG under the dialogue direction and based on a dubbing book by Michael Nowka .

There are German trailers with other voice actors. What is striking is the consistency of the dubbing voice of Ben Stiller ( Oliver Rohrbeck ) and that the penguins are not spoken by the Fantastic Four . The trailer (TV commercial) broadcast on television matches the voice actors used for the film.

Reviews

Rico Pfirstinger writes for the cinema magazine Cinema : “Madagascar” is not a new “Finding Nemo!” And largely dispenses with the usual moral messages in this genre. Not a great movie - but great fun.

The film was given the rating of Particularly Valuable by the Filmbewertungsstelle Wiesbaden (FBW) . In its justification, the rating agency called the film “technically perfect” and saw it as “convincingly designed family entertainment with ingenuity and wit”.

music

The film contains three songs played several times. One is Theme from New York, New York , which the two friends Alex and Marty sing both in the zoo (both) and on the island (only Marty). In the scene of Marty and Alex's first reunion in Madagascar, the theme song from The Victor's Hour is played by the Greek composer Vangelis . Another well-known song is I Like To Move It by Reel 2 Real from 1994. This is the party anthem of the lemurs and is also played in the credits. The third title is that of the 1966 nature film Born Free . At the beginning of the film he is presented with singing in Marty's dream sequence. Then it is played orchestral several times. The title music of the National Geographic program is also recorded at short notice, as well as Boogie Wonderland from Earth, Wind and Fire and Staying Alive from the Bee Gees . Furthermore, What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong is played as the original. When Marty's arrival on the island, the theme song of Hawaii Five-Zero can be heard.
