National Geographic Channel is a pay-TV broadcaster that specializes in the broadcast of documentaries .
History and description
National Geographic Channel International, which also organizes the German program, is owned by Rupert Murdoch's international media group News Corporation , the US media company NBC and National Geographic Television & Film, which is part of the National Geographic Society .
The first National Geographic channels went on air in September 1997 in Europe and Australia.
The National Geographic Channel started broadcasting in Germany on November 1, 2004.
The program is available in 153 countries and 27 languages.

The National Geographic Channel and its National Geographic Wild offshoot can be received in Germany via Sky via cable and satellite.
In addition, it is part of the program bouquets of the major cable network operators Vodafone Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia .

A German HD version of the National Geographic Channel has been available on the Sky Deutschland pay-TV platform since July 4, 2009 . According to the broadcaster, they only want to show real HDTV programs and not upscaled programs. The program is now identical to the SD version of the transmitter.
Nat Geo People
Nat Geo People was a real-life broadcaster from the FOX group with a range of topics related to travel, food, adventure, living cultures and lifestyle.
The distribution of the program offshoot Nat Geo People ceased on September 12, 2017 in German-speaking countries.
