action

Long ago the son of the Principality of Gongmen City, Lord Shen (a peacock ), fell in love with fireworks - not to please the other beings of his realm, but to use them as a weapon . The old seer of the court, however, prophesied that if he followed his desire for conquest, he would be defeated in the end by a "warrior in black and white". Shen then had all pandas in the empire exterminated to counter the prophecy ; his parents, horrified by the bloody act, then dismissed him, which further fueled Shen's cravings.

Many years later, Shen has advanced and almost completed the development of his project, but he needs more iron for the last step. To this end, his men raid the nearby villages and steal whatever iron things they can find. Po and his friends, the Furious Five, come to the aid of the villagers, but at the sight of their symbol of sovereignty Po comes across a flashback from his mother who distracts him so that the culprits can escape. Later, Po asks Mr. Ping, the man he knows as his father, about his origins, but all Ping can tell him is that he found Po as a baby in a radish box in front of his noodle restaurant and then took him in Has. The question about his origin makes Po restless, so that he has problems finding his inner peace.

Master Shifu later receives a message from the Princely Councilors of Gongmen City that Shen has seized power in the city by force (his parents passed away a long time ago). Po and the Furious Five set out for Gongmen City to free the two surviving councilors Roaring Ox and Croco, but the two steadfastly refuse to leave their cells: Shen's new weapon - a cannon - has its master Thundering Rhinoceros in spite of this Mastery in Kung Fu swept away with just one blow, which made them lose heart. The six companions are then captured by Shen; they can break free and destroy the cannon in his throne room, but unfortunately this was only part of Shen's arsenal. In addition, Po recognizes Shen's symbol as the sign that is so closely related to his past that Shen was able to flee at the last moment. Because of this mistake, Tigress forbids Po to go with them when they try to sabotage Shen's cannon foundry. Po follows them anyway to get answers from Shen; All he can do is get his friends caught again and, after Shen persuaded him that his parents left him because they didn't love him, he was shot out of the foundry by the cannon. However, he is found again by the seer and enlightened about his and Shen's past, and knowing that he still had a happy childhood with Ping, Po finally finds his inner peace.

When Shen wants to set off with his cannons and his navy to conquer China, Po now opposes him with new determination, supported by Master Shifu, who was finally able to instill new courage in the roaring ox and crocodile. Shen makes ruthless use of his cannons and initially manages to repel the Kung Fu masters; but then, thanks to his new inner calm and his bare hands, Po can intercept the projectiles directed at him and hurl them back onto the fleet to sink all ships and thus Shen's plans. When Po tries to persuade Shen to find his own peace, the latter refuses and attacks him; but in doing so he brings his last cannon to fall on him and crush him under himself. In addition, at the end it is indicated again (like throughout the film) that there is a particularly close bond between Po and Tigress.

Po returns home victorious and fully accepts Ping as his father. At that moment, however, it is revealed that Po’s biological father is still living in a remote panda village and feels that his son is still alive.
