Dennis Dexter Haysbert (born June 2, 1954 in San Mateo , California ) is an American actor , who was best known for the television series 24 and The Unit .

Live and act

He started his film career after studying acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts with the series Lou Grant . After that he played mainly in the theater and in smaller television productions. In 1997 he was given a significant role in Absolute Power from Clint Eastwood as one of the Secret Service agents alongside Gene Hackman .

In 1999 he played Dr. Theodore Morris in the short-lived science fiction series Future Man and in 2001 he assumed the role of US presidential candidate David Palmer in the action series 24 on, which he won the 2002 Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the best actresses ensembles for the first season of 24 was .

From 2006 to 2009 he starred in the series The Unit - A Question of Honor . In Goodbye Bafana in 2007 he took on the role of Nelson Mandela during his imprisonment, at the side of Diane Kruger and Joseph Fiennes . In early January it was announced that he would take on the role of God in the final season of the series Lucifer .
