Michael Clarke Duncan (born December 10, 1957 in Chicago , Illinois - † September 3, 2012 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Duncan grew up with a single mother in Chicago. With his enormous body size (height: 196 cm, weight: approx. 142 kg), he first worked as a bouncer in various clubs in Chicago, then as a bodyguard in Los Angeles, among others for Will Smith and Jamie Foxx .

His first major film was Armageddon - The Last Judgment ; He became friends with Bruce Willis during filming in 1998 . This later helped him to his most famous role as John Coffey in the Stephen King film adaptation The Green Mile , which earned him an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination in the category Best Supporting Actor . At the side of Willis, he also starred in the films No halves , Sin City and Breakfast of Champions - Breakfast for Heroes .

Other well-known roles were that of the Kingpin in Daredevil , Balthazar in The Scorpion King and a participation in Planet of the Apes and The Island . He also lent Atlas in the PlayStation game God of War II and a character in the computer game Soldier of Fortune , as well as Wade from the future in the Kim Possible episode A Sitch in Time .

In addition to his roles in films, Duncan also had guest appearances in series such as the US crime series CSI: NY and the sitcom Two and a Half Men . In Bones he played as Leo Knox in the sixth season in the backdoor pilot for the spin-off The Finder , in which he continued these roles. In 2011 he starred alongside Mischa Barton and Devon Sawa in Matt Orlando's horror film The Sibling .

His German voice actor was Tilo Schmitz . In the film The Green Mile , however, Jürgen Kluckert lent him his voice.

On September 3, 2012, he died at the age of 54 of complications from a heart attack on July 13, 2012. He left behind his fiancée Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth .
