Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the novels of Kurt Vonnegut were difficult to film, which also applies to the novel of this film. The screenwriter and director Alan Rudolph understood the subject matter of the novel, but did not manage to convey it to the audience. The representations are not bad, but the characters are shown flat. Berardinelli particularly praised the portrayals of Bruce Willis and Nick Nolte.

"An exquisitely played, but at most pointedly staged satire about the impending loss of reality in a world of (images) images and signals that does not have the courage to deepen the topic and silts up in striking, exaggerated individual scenes."

Awards

Alan Rudolph was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 1999 Berlinale .
