Alan Rudolph (born December 18, 1943 in Los Angeles ) is an American film director and screenwriter.

Alan Rudolph is the son of television director and actor Oscar Rudolph (1911–1991). At the beginning of his filmmaking career, Alan Rudolph was a protégé of Robert Altman , whom he assisted in his films Death Knows No Return and Nashville . Even with his own films, he followed Altman's path as an independent auteur filmmaker, mostly filming his own scripts. After his directorial debut in 1972, his most famous films were made in the 1980s with Keith Carradine in the lead role. He presented his works at the most important film festivals and was a guest at the Berlinale several times .
